The documentary McLibel, originally released in the UK in April of this year (just in time for McDonald's 50th anniversary), is the true story of British activists Helen Steel and Dave Morris' battle when they were sued by McDonald's for libel over allegations published in a pamphlet the two distributed in 1988. The case became the longest trial in English legal history, and a public relations fiasco for McDonald's.
Directed by Franny Armstrong over a period of 10 years, McLibel shows how the fast-food giant tried to hammer the two down using a mighty legal force and gloss over the unpleasant aspects of its business. Most importantly, however, it shows the power that ordinary citizens have when they stand up for their rights in the face of corporate intimidation.
The Wild at Heart Legal Defense Association is proud to present this documentary, in English with Chinese subtitles, during a free lunchtime matinee (which includes a free vegetarian lunch).
