Fairy Pitta Concert, Fair and Eco-tour on 8 April 2006

In celebration of the Fairy Pitta, and in opposition of the Hushan Dam

You-cing Valley cannot be without the Purple Butterfly;
Hushan cannot be without the Fairy Pitta

In April every year, the rare Fairy Pitta flies all the way from Indonesia and Malaysia to the forests of Yunlin County in Central Taiwan, to produce the next generation of this beautiful bird. Yunlin Wild Bird Association, Taiwan Sustainability Alliance and Taiwan Academy of Ecology invite you to a free concert and an ecology and culture tour of You-qing valley, in celebration of the journey of the Fairy Pitta to Yunlin County.

1. Concert:

Performers include the You-tu Jiao Band, Chen Sheng, Chen Ming-jhang, Hakkanese singer Lin Sheng-Siang, Guo Da-tong (the best harmonica player in all of Yunlin, Chia-yi and Tainan!) and the Black-hand Nakashi workers band.

Guest speakers: Calligrapher Chen Shi-huan, Professor Chen Yu-feng of Taiwan Academy of Ecology and Assistant Professor Lin Yi-ren.

Time:
7:00 pm Saturday 8 April.

Culture Park in Douliu, Yunlin (opposite the main gate of Yunlin University of Technology)

2. Green business, environmental protection, culture and arts fair

This fair aims to promote a new vision for Yunlin's culture and agriculture, including increased integration of local products from the hills, rivers, sea and plains of Yunlin County.

Time:
9 am to 6.30 pm, 8 April.

Place:
The Culture Park (Ren-wen Park) in Douliu, Yunlin (opposite the main gate of Yunlin University of Technology).

3. Ecology and culture tour of You-qing Valley (part of the area to be submerged by the Hushan Dam project)

Register in advance or on the day; registration and gathering place: Culture Park in Douliu, Yunlin.
Shuttle bus service available; please book in advance as spaces are limited.

8am to 4 pm, Saturday 8 April.

Transportation Routes:

1. National Highway No. 3 (Southern Second Freeway), turn off at Ku-keng (269 km), join the Tai-si Highway (road no. 78), come off at Douliu Ku-keng, head for Jhong-shan Rd., Douliu, when you get to the side entrance to Yunlin University of Technology turn left onto Da-syue Rd, and the Culture Park is opposite the university entrance.

2. From Douliu Train Station you can take a taxi for NT$110…or walk: go along Da-tong Road, turn left onto Jhong-shan Road, turn left again onto Daxue Road, and the Culture Park is directly opposite the main entrance to Yunlin University of Technology.
